About Us

I’m Ross Wilson, a mechanical engineer with more than a decade working in offshore technology. Based here in Scotland’s Central Belt, I’ve been lucky enough to build a career surrounded by the country’s proud tradition of engineering and its deep maritime heritage. This is something that inspires everything we do.

The idea for our core product came while I was making bespoke subsea cables to support research and development at a previous company. There simply wasn’t a tool designed for the specific job I needed to do. The “next best” was to borrow tools from other industries, but they were clumsy, inconsistent, and just didn’t meet the standard I was aiming for. Outsourcing wasn’t an option either, as lead times were too long, and I needed results fast.

So I improvised! Piece by piece, idea by idea, I built something that worked. At first it was just for me but it didn’t take long to realise that I couldn’t be the only engineer struggling with this. That’s when the spark became a mission.

In 2023, I founded Dead Reckoning Engineering to bring cable making tools to the wider offshore community. Since then, we’ve refined our products, and supplied them to engineers around the world who share the same need for precision and reliability.

Everything we do is shaped by our i³ values:

  • Insight — developing products that genuinely help customers achieve more.
  • Integrity — being open, honest, and ethical in every interaction.
  • Innovation — finding new, better ways to solve the challenges our industry faces.

From a one-off solution on my workbench to a tool trusted across the sector, our story is proof that the right idea, driven by passion and purpose, can make a real difference.
